Recently, trajectory retrieval has attracted a lot of interesting research [9–14] in this ﬁeld. This paper diﬀers with those proposed search algorithms in the following aspects: – The spatio-temporal points of the trajectories recorded by the mobile network are coarse-grained. The position in each point is presented as an ID of a cell, which is a land area to be supplied with radio service from one base station. The size of a cell is about hundreds of meters in the dense city zone. Furthermore, the temporal information of each point is not a exact timestamp, but a time interval when a mobile phone appears in the cell.
Fig. 4(b) shows that the ’Threaded Tree based’ algorithm outperform the ’Basic Algorithm’ obviously. This result reveals that the thread table adopted in the algorithm can eﬀectively reduce the Query Time by pruning unnecessary search on the index tree. Moreover, compared with the ’Threaded Tree based’ algorithm, the ’Heuristics based’ algorithm can further reduce about half of the Query Time. This validates the eﬀectiveness of the heuristics based query optimization. On the other hand, Fig. 4(b) also indicates that the ’Heuristics based’ algorithm can ﬁnish a query eﬃciently within one second and the time is not inﬂuenced by increasing the length of the surveillance trajectory to be matched.
