The target of the chassis development was to offer best in class comfort, especially in impact isolation and road noise isolation, hence higher targets than competitors. To meet the customer’s expectations, Bentley needed high targets for shake and steering column ride, which are critical for refinement. Bentayga should immediately display confidence, inspiring the customer while driving, therefore confidence should be high but not to the level of the sportier competitor as this would impact on the ride comfort.
The car has two driver-selectable levels of ride height increase – the vehicle can be raised by 20mm at the touch of a button to allow the car freedom to tackle poor road surfaces without risk of damage. For off-road work, another push of the button raises the car by a further 25mm improving the approach and departure angles and allowing the car to be used on heavily rutted surfaces. It is possible for the driver to lower the whole car from standard ride height down to ‘Access’ level using the ride height buttons or the touch controls on the MMI screen.
