Although some of these young adults are in stable situations and either moving forward with their education or employed in promising jobs, more of them are having significant difficulties during the early stages of the transition to adulthood. So board leaders applied for and received a $2,500 Housing Opportunity Grant from NAR to draw attention to the program and their involvement in it. According to the United Nations, there are at least 100 million homeless in the world today. It seems important to understand all that in order to drive home the point that we are at least potentially talking about all of us, and not ‘just those people over there.’ Because if it’s not us and those we care about (or who we at least perceive to look like us), it’s all too easy to look away, distance ourselves, or consider it to all be someone else's problem.
